Family fishing trip sugestions to the coast

Hey gang, was thinking to take the wife, child ( 20 month old) and boat to ukee or maybe sooke/renfrew for a trip. Fish most every weekend between vancouver and gabriola but that's as far as we have ventured. Boat is a 2359 trophy and has radar but I am no expert with the radar. My concerns would be fog and launching and dealing with the boat solo with a small child. Which place do you all feel would be best. My wife really likes bottom fishing also

Right now I would go to Port Alberni. Fish Sox on calm water, and venture out to the sound if you like. Carry on to Bamfield and beyond if you are comfortable with the big seas. Good bottom fishing is mostly on the outside and big seas can be hard on kids. There are a few bottom fish around Barkley Sound as well.
Good Luck

I launch my Grady all the time bye myself in Alberni as Bod said.... a good trip doing socks then Barkley Sound

Nootka also has plenty of calm water inside to fish with a family and places to stay on the hook or dock. On the inside I doubt you'll have to worry about fog. Like Derby, I launch my 22 Ft Grady all the time solo. There at Gold River, Port Renfrew, Sooke and other locales. Never an issue if you've got your launch program set up ok.

I don't think fog should be a problem this early in the year. If you have a decent plotter with charts, you should have no problem with the Ucluelet area. If the water is calm, you can venture outside and that's were the biggies are. There are plenty of people hanging around at Island West Resort that if you needed help launching, someone I think will be nice enough to help out. Finding moorage is kinda tough this time of year now. The only problem with Poet and Bamfield is the road is another story. I've stayed at Poet before and it is a nice place and well protected.

Sooke is hot right now for pinks, coho and springs and most of the time calm waters and Victoria and shopping isnt far away for the wife.

good luck Wolf

Bamfield is my fav for the island but port hardy is nice because you can fish close to the launch and its pretty calm!!

Hey guys thanks for the responses. Both renfrew and ukee had a slip available, Wolf where would you suggest to launch and Moore up in sooke. By the way you don't know my wife, no shopping for her usually me asking to go back to shore after fishing 10 hrs lol.

Do you have a daughter? LOL

All jokes aside I would choose sooke just because the fishing is so good right now its nearly a gaurantee if the weather is nice!

Think I will pull the boat over to sooke, looks like I can get a slip for a few nights at the sooke harbor marina, and my wife is already in sooke visiting her friend. Fishing sounds very active there right now. Thanks for all the responses, just hope the wind backs down a little.
