family fishing getaway recommendations

Hi,

I am looking at doing a getaway with the family this year mid July. I am looking for waterfront accommodation for a family of four. I will be driving my 24' boat from Vancouver, no trailer, so reasonable running distance, say 3 hours or less. Looking for a place with a nice Beach for the kids, dock or protected moorage, and good fishing. Open to any and all recommendations. Pm or post here.

Thanks!

Pacific Playgounds.......moorage, pool, miracle beach, go carts and mini golf within walking distance.

Fishing either Campbell River, Sentry Shoals, Grants Reef, Kitty Colman all 10-20 mins away

Not sure how long it would take you in your boat but Jglobal could maybe tell you his experience. He amazed me how quickly he did it for a hockey tourney.

Hi sounds like a great plan Campbell river will offer better fishing than my recommendation. You can't beat the Gulf Islands for a family trip with kids I spent many summers in the Gulf Islands as that where I grew up, below are a few places of interest. There are many more but the names aren't coming to mind.

Bedwell Harbor on South Pender Island

Montague Harbor

Gangees on Salt Spring Island

Walker Hook ( Nude Beach ) Salt Spring Island

Thetis Island Pub & Marina

Silva Bay on Gabriola Island Pub and protected anchoring

Cruise along the Valdez Island Cliffs is neat

Pirates Cove on Decourcy Island - Edward Aurthor Wilson ( Brother 12 ) neat story apparently there is hidden treasure on the island. Trails on island and moorage in cove.

Nanaimo Harbor if you make it that far Protection Island moorage and entire island a park and a neat hopping little pub called the Dingy Dock which you tie up to as it's floating.

There's lots of good crabbing spots right at these locations right off your boat in 30 - 50 ft of water and Thetis Island is great for prawning in 230ft of water. Gangees is quite neat there are great restaurants and lots of shops/galleries I could see you spending some time in that location.

It gets quite hot in the gulf as there's not much wind no fog and the seas are for the most part flat calm. Pardon for any of my location name spelling errors didn't have time to look them all up but I think there pretty good lol! Hope this gives some ideas.

I have to say silva bay Nanaimo for this one. Fishing is pretty good and lots to see and do. Also lots of places to explore close by.

rent a trailer on the beach at we wai kai, quadra island, done this trip many times with the family.

Pender Harbour or Secret Cove (Rockwater), easy trip from either out to mid-Strait locations like Sangster Is, tip of Texada, tip of Lasqueti. Epsom Point (Thormanby Is) for inshore fishing. Easy side trips in opposite direction to Skookumchuck Rapids, Jervis Inlet, Hotham Sound.

Thanks for the recommendations, we have booked a waterfront house in Sooke. What's the halibut fishing like at that time of year?
