Is there an in person option as well? Or is it only virtual? Do we need to have attended a previous one in person to join the virtual?
Cheers

I applaud adding the virtual option and will try to make it! Posting all of the connection details and passcodes here is risky though - Zoom/Teams bombing is a real thing that people do, and could easily derail the meeting. People join up to just disrupt - either by being deliberately offensive, or in this case possibly to push an anti-fishing agenda. Its a PITA but probably safer to get people to at least register their name and emails to get the connection details.

I am really not worried. This is a public meeting anyway.

There isn't anything secretive that they don't already know. In the in person meetings we have had our share of people in past sitting there with not the best interests.

Here is the agenda for the meeting.
In light of DFO's plans to shut down the south coast. I think all area meetings should respectfully ask when the SKRW closures will be lifted for each item on the agenda, and not participate in any of the discussion other than to pass resolutions to have the SKRW closures completely removed.
We should proceed with the elections telling the new executive to tell Ottawa that we will no longer wish to co-operate.

Spring 2025 Meeting Minutes

Can you run the meeting for us then?

Is Mark Frisson not running the meeting? He sent the invitation and agenda. If not will he be reporting back to his bosses that we are now truly pissed off?
DFO needs to hear we have had enough from all fronts, all the time as do all of our MLAs.

Spring 2025 Meeting Minutes
I will be chairing the meeting and SRKW on the agenda .

Also in meeting last night our area is looking for volunteers as soon as possible.

The chair of Area 17 will be stepping down in a few years and it would be awesome if we could get a handful of co-chairs that could take on variety of roles to support. Once he steps down from role ideally one of the co-chairs can take the position by succession.

The amount of work being within on the SFAB is tremendous right now, and there is not enough young people stepping up to fill positions/help. I don't think people really understand the pressure these guys on main board are under right now, and the demand with all these issues coming down the pipe. It is insane.

I logged in for a few minutes then realized I logged into the wrong one, kind of silly to have Vancouver’s one at the same day and time hahaha

LFV-SFAC Vancouver we just made the minimum of 6 voting members, We almost finished the night with no chair or co chair.

were in the single biggest population with one of the largest geographical areas, Encompassing 2 different DFO detachments. Steaveston and Langley.

In our area we have many different hatcheries, Kanaka Creek, Alouette, Little Campbell river, Capilano, serpentine, Nicomekl ect so just talking about proposed changes like reducing production at Chilliwack hatchery or chinook plants into the Coquitlam river took up a good portion of the meeting.

There was a good presentation by DFO enforcement, Was surprised to learn some guys were cutting their fishing lines when being approached by dfo, They ended up being charged with obstruction. way to much other stuff to type here, Fishing with barbed hooks was again accounted for most of the tickets issued.

Hardly enough time to really get into any of the issues. meeting ended at 10:30 Pm (thanks DFO for staying), One of the action items was to request more meetings as we probably skipped half of the issues in our area. DFO said good luck, no money for addition meetings, Did you not see the new budgets come, DFO budget has been cut.

not enough time to talk about any of the issues like, why there is a new bait ban for Coho in the Lower Fraser after the IFS window, Sponge Reef closures, SRKW, Closed till open regs effecting areas like Pitt River and business their, guides with rod ours ect on that flow. The list goes on...

with motions taking up to two years to make it though the process people were not to motivated write them to keep banging their heads against the same wall.

Didnt think about that and will in the future reach to Jason so I dont cross over with his meeting. There is a lot of moving pieces right now and the future consultation maybe have some challenges. I am surprised by the lack of people attending these meeting as Jason works very hard for those folks that fish that area when given the opportunity to..

I will step down to a co chair position a lesser role so I can take on some other roles in the SFAB that require more of my available time :)

Thanks Derby and other on the SFAB for all the time and hard work they have put into the SFAB over the years.
In Victoria, I was also surprised there were so few attendees. I think 20% of the people on line were DFO.
It appear that people will not be concerned until fishing is shut down and that will be to late.

I attended this meeting and sorry had to leave half through, didn't work out on timing on my part that day. Good group for sure. I do agree about these 2 meeting being different dates and intertwined. Same as the south island group. It's a very shared portion of fisheries managment, stock returns, SRKW, and all of the above.

From what I can tell is everyone is doing a good job, people working their asses off. We just need more involvement in the bigger scope. Same with DFO. The forcast doesn't look so good. Their calling for 500 million of cutbacks in 5 years. As previously mentioned. I hope the whale managment group gets cut before stock assessments, monitoring, and DFO involvement with the leader boards.

Anyhow, good group and I'll try and participate more.
