EPIRB wanted

IMHO -- you're buying an EPIRB as a measure to save your life. Everyone wants to save a few bucks, but in this case I think I'd be getting a new one. EPIRB's are relatively expensive and are usually affixed to your boat and deploy either manually or when you capsize. An alternative is a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) that you carry with you in your pocket. They run about $200 and the battery lasts about 5-6 years until it needs to be changed. Upside to a PLB is that you can also use it hiking, hunting, backcountry skiing etc...
