Had an very interesting discussion with this fellow today.
Quite enlightening.
The decisions being made soon will directly effect each and every one of us that likes to Hunt & Fish.

That said, in keeping with this Forums No Politics rule, I will refrain from posting my thoughts on the matter openly here.

Anyone that cares, or wants to be informed, feel free to pm.

says fishery politics in the header. state the facts without prejudice or slander.

Here is the related post I made on a few other sites:

As some here may be aware, Mr. Ross is a FN fellow currently running for the head of the BC Liberal Party (no association with that other group in Ottawa).

I just now walked in the door from another meeting with Ellis. He is in town to attend a logging industry rally, and of course to meet with potential voters.

He and I directly discussed a few matters:

Land Access Issues: He is aware of the issues, however not keenly so... yet. He will need a little more information and public interest to bring him up to snuff. More than willing to listen. If there is any interest, I can post suggestions in this regard soon.

Wildlife & Wild Land Issues: One of his foremost backers here is a lifetime hunter and long term guide.
It came as no surprise whatsoever to me that he is very well informed on the state both lands and wildlife are in within BC, nor that he has some pretty damn good ideas on how to proceed to address that. Fully determined that wildlife management should be solely based on science, and to create policies to reflect that. Wants to see all the coin from licenses dumped directly back into effective management programs. Also wants to see more coin from general revenue dedicated to the same task. Indicates no preference for Indigenous harvesting over any other, and went so far as to suggest a proper accounting of harvest from all sectors is required to do the job effectively.

The Old Guard: Clean sweep is the way he put it. No wonder some in his party are nervous. Overdue IMHO.

This fellow is NOT your polished trickster politico. In fact quite the opposite with his scuffed boots, jeans and down to earth demeanor. Rather very much a common man type, who sincerely comes across as such.

I have met him previously, but did not have the opportunity to delve as deep into these matters and more as I did today.
Those that know me understand I have an inherent distrust and dislike of pretty well every politico I have ever wandered across.
Not this time. I am actually impressed, and believe he will focus on getting to exactly what he says.
VERY much has my full blown support now.

Cheers,
Nog

Thanks, Nog. Will be watching the upcoming debates closely. If he's really a common man type with a sincere demeanor, I'd be worried about his survival chance in the political jungle...

He’s a very smart man that chooses to inform himself and not just listen to rhetoric. I had the opportunity about 3 years ago to spend the better part of an afternoon with Ellis. He chose to come out to one of our drilling sites in the FSJ area and actually spend some time out there and learn for himself exactly what a drilling site is, what we do and to inform himself on the strides we have made in our industry in regards to land stewardship and environmental issues. He wanted to see for himself what takes place. Very few politicians this day and age would ever do such a thing.

Agreed. In my opinion, he's the only chance the Libs have for restoring public faith and confidence in that party, and turning it back towards common-sense, intelligent middle-ground conservatism. Falcon is old guard, and every bit complicit in the criminal corruption and patronage that's been plaguing that party for way too long.

Ellis has been around for a while. He was a Councillor for his band in Kitamaat and has been a serving MLA for two sessions. I think he understands politics, but may not fit the woke mould and that could cost him. Many good ideas and not afraid to express them.

Here we go again….

Kevin Falcon, who served as Finance Minister and Deputy Premier in previous BC Liberal governments, has been chosen as the party’s new leader.

It took five rounds of voting for Falcon to beat six other candidates in the leadership race. In the fifth round, Falcon garnered 52.19 per cent of votes from the party, while Skeena MLA Ellis Ross picked up 33.65 per cent and Vancouver-Langara MLA Michael Lee received 14.4 per cent.

Political expert says Falcon was likely NDP's 'secret favourite choice'

Love how it goes 5 rounds same bs with the conservative leadership. How we ended up with sheer and O’Toole instead of McKay.

It is a very sad day for the BC Liberal Party.
Falcon represents a return to everything that was bad under Clarke's rule.
I guess they can be congratulated for condemning themselves to the Opposition role for the foreseeable future.

Horgan and his cronies must be dancing with joy.

Very familiar with this idiot. From a fish perspective, and environment he is bad news. This Bill was actually was the crux of the problem with contaminated soil dump in Shawnigan,Lake on Vancouver island. Read below:

Bill 35, repeals Sections 13, 24, 28(2), 32, 40(2), 41(6, 6.1, 7), 42(3), 43(2), 72, and amends
parts of Sections 22 (7-c), 96(1), and 143(3) of the Forest Practices Code Act, removing all
references to, and intercessory powers of, the designated “environment official”. These
changes were executed through the new Ministry of Deregulation. The April 16th legislative
transcripts state that Deregulation Minister Kevin Falcon concluded that the Environment
Ministry’s role in community watersheds was “nonessential”, “red tape”, and an “unnecessary
requirement”. He argued that an environment agency “diminishes the province's economic
competitiveness and stands in the way of job creation or wastes taxpayers’ time and money”
and blamed the 1985 Social Credit protocol agreement on “NDP Socialism”. By removing the
ministry accountable for environmental protection, Falcon felt the changes would “protect the
important values of public health, safety and the environment.” Falcon also promised
government would be “consulting with interested stakeholders.

Yeah, I don't like him.

Part of the old guard. Has worked for major property developer since his last stint in politics. Not sure this guy will care about fish.
