I usually try to troll as slow as possible, speed one on the minkota. I was out Monday as well, caught some bows on a burgundy leach and some on a flatfish behind a gang troll not too deep. Largest two both over 4 lb.
Well I was always told to use a longer leader with high action lures like flatfish and rapalas but after a lot of experimenting I found a leader ought be about 40 inches. If trolling a worm, go shorter like 18". Just remember that on any given day some thing may or not work but it never hurts to try something when they aren't biting.
