I'm in the market for a new downrigger rod. Anybody have any suggestions and why you like it?

Cannon downrigger Rods. come in three different flex/stiff patterns

Note: Not for center pins

2 of the many rods we run are Two Daiwa 9'-10' grafite/kevlar mooching rods. Bought them for $5 each at a gargage sale years ago, Oak bay fishing guide was selling out. Changed a few eyes on the rods, good to go. Had these two rods for over 10 years. I replace a few eyes as they go, and I can'nt stop using them.. Most amazing rods, tried many many of the new high end rods out there.... non can compare to these. Amazzing soft top end flex, with strong power in the base to lean into a fish if need be to control it.. Great light wight rod perfectly balanced. Very seldom to loose a spring while fitting a fish out on these rods. Last summer is Sooke we landed 54 springs in August on these rods! In four consecutive trips we had 6 double headers and landed them ALL! When you get a good spring on with these rods its a completly different feeling than other rods I every used.. Have'nt found another rod like it. Looked into it they don't make these rods any more.. I would love to find more of them.. For me my favoroite rod, hands down is the Daiwa 9'-10' grafite/kevlar mooching rods. If you find one before me.. let me know I will buy it! :D

I use Berkley 'Technique' 10'6 mooching rods.
I use them for everything.Jigging,mooching,trolling

Berkley Canadian Specialist series 10'6 med/heavy and the priceier Fenwick HMX Both are Nice and soft with tons of backbone and the Stainless/titanium alloy no insert style eyes are sweet. The Berkley roughneck is a good inexpensive rod that comes with many eyes. The more eyes on a rod , the more vibrations you will feel from the nice soft sensative tips on the market today. GL Loomis are amazing but a bit steep on price for me! Many a West Coast guide swear by the quality and feel of the bulletproof Canadian Specialist for the price at around 120$.

thanks for the info boys--That Berkeley looks good, Maddog. I'll be joining you at Cheanuh this week, maybe tomorrow.

for single action reels I use Ordella 10'6" on the 1264 Rainshadow black - Go LIGHT :))))

We'll see you there, Maddog. No Rigours is finally ready for the water so I'll put it in tomorrow after work and leave it there for the season. GAME ON!

BTW Island Outfitters site has a rod called the Diawa Canadian Specialty rod--are you sure the one you're thinking of is a Berkeley?

What about Berkley Reflex Downriger rods,

8'6" medium action 12-25lb.

Are they any good?

I like Shimano rods. In particular the Convergence or the new Technium all 10.5 ft long. They have a lifetime warranty and the Technium with the TC4 construction is virtually impossible to break, yet it very light and responsive. These rods have sensitive tips and strong backs and are long enough to fish with 6-9 ft leaders. The Fenwick HMX 10.5 ft rods are very nice as well. That's my two bits.

go with the Ugly Stick. if u break it just take it back to the place with a recite and u will get a new one. easy as that. and their great rods. caught lots of fish with them. u can bend them from tip to but, I think it 9'6" rod. And around $70

i went in to Trotac thinking to get the Berkeley Canadian specialist but they didn't have them in stock and I was so impressed with the feel of the Shimano Technium that that's what I came away with. Now for some testing...[8D]
