Downrigger question?

I have 2-7 year old Scotty electric downriggers the have not been use much and one of then seems really slow when winding up. Would this just be from a bad electrical connection or is it possible there is an issue with the motor? Any feedback really appreciated.

check your plugs, wires and connections, if they are dirty/corroded then that will reduce the power getting to the motor. Also the size and length of the wires going to the battery will be a factor.

When in doubt take to scotty and they can test it out for you.

x2 on that.....

check all battery connections......you get any kind of buildup on those, it can slow things down.......I've done mine twice in the past two months.......

They will corrode just from the salt in the air it seems......

Thanks for all the feedback! I changed sides and it still does it so think it is either the plug in, the clutch or maybe motor. I am using the push in plugs. Should I up grade to twist plug ins?

Take it into Scotty if your close or to one of the repair centres.

Yes, get rid of the old push in plugs!!! You can test the brake clutch yourself, just pull on the cable end with it set to brake on and when set to brake off. Should pull out easy. I have had motors get slow and Scotty replaced it.

What's wrong with the old "push in" plugs?......they work great if you look after them......I've been using mine forever....

I mount mine so plug pushes in from side. No rain gets in and the plug doesn't fall out the bottom like I've seen where the plug pushed in from below.
