Douglas Channel report

I will be heading out fishing in the Douglas Channel next week and was hoping to get a little insight as to how the fishing has been there lately. This will be the first time fishing there for me, all my ocean fishing has been between Powell River and Campbell River so far, I'm not really sure what to expect in the channel. I'm hoping the reports will be good!

The bar at Fishtrap should be good for coho about now.

I just got back and I am not sure what the area is we were fishing was. I won a trip with a guide out of Kitimat and we were about 25 miles up the channel. Fishing for coho was excellent where we were and the ave. size was very good around 10-12lbs. with a few larger ones in there. Fishing right in the harbour a few miles out by the native village on left as you are heading out was lights out around tide change. Forgot to ask the names of the areas further out that were fishing. Green silver flashers and green cuddlefish is all we had to use anywhere from 60 at the deepest to 30 at the shallowest. Early we trolled bucktails and wound up getting a few hits with one landed which was the highlight of my trip for sure.

Well that sounds good! Who was it you went with, and how were they as far as an outfitter?

I went out on an all inclusive type deal. 43' bay liner that we stayed on, as I said I probably would never have done it but I won the trip so why not. The two guys were awesome as hosts. To be honest I like fishing with knuckle dusters over the level winds they provided especially with the coho. Hence why I loved getting a fish bucktailing. Nothing better than 1 to 1 action on a reel. We had a blast!
