i would like some input tnx
i have 2005 yam 9.9 high thrust works flawlessly
wanting a 2024 white one 9.9
is there any difference in old vs new i think the block of a new one is of a 8 hp
there lighter smaller more compact
will there be less bite in the water with new one or just more throttle

The old ones had more push. They also had less idle circuit issues (tiny idle curcuit passage gets clogged easy in newer 9.9). I wouldn't pay to put a new yam with a carb on a boat that had a flawlessly running older yam on it.
We have 20 charter boats on our dock and we have almost all abandoned that 9.9 out of frustration with the carbs. The old ones (yours) were much loved for the lower maintenance and better push. The new 9.9 carbs were a pain. Consider a 9.9 zuk or merc kicker as both are injected.

If it’s the same block as the newer 8s you’ll find it vibrates a lot more than the old motors did.

I went from an 2008 8 HP Yam HT to a 2020 9.9 HP Yam HT and can say there’s zero difference. No added vibrations, same quiet, same fuel burn, same torque. Nice having a new motor tho.
