Dear PM: Halibut?

On behalf of a request from the Coalition I fired this off to the PM today. Took me about 10 min. + a couple of proof-read/edits.
Anyone else wanting to do so can do it here:

Dear Sir,

As a lifelong recreational fisherman I have contributed greatly to the economic engine of BC. I believe you would agree that on a per-pound taken basis that the rec-fishery is far and away the greatest contributor to local economies.

So then, Sir, why do you and your DFO continue to ham-string us with late halibut openings, early closures and catch restrictions when there is no credible conservation issue?

The communication between your offices (DFO) and our sector is nearly non-existent. What of my guide-outfitter brothers and tourism hotel operators ect. who can't even book clients because they have no clue if or even when DFO might open the season?

There are a million or more of us who are passionate about the conservation and sustainability of our coveted Pacific halibut fishery. Most of us vote.

Please accord us the recognition and respect we have earned and deserve.

Yours truly,
Terry Anderson (Carpenter)
Victoria, BC.

Well said Terry, this is the man that needs to know what is going on. There is no way in hell that the Minister of DFO is going to tell PM Harper that she is sitting on her hands on this issue. Harper needs to know that the inaction of his DFO Minister is going to get "him" a black eye, while she continues to fly under the radar, there is a distinct possibility of an election coming and Harper doesn't want a million plus vote "black eye" from the sport fishing/hunting sector, he needs the votes.

never hurts - sent one also to the big guy last week - got a note back from his runner that it was forwarded to the finance minister for response (or someone like that!) Haven't heard back yet.

And along those lines--- From Kitimat. Great stuff guys!!

The Residents of Kitimat and the all our neighbors in the North West and in fact Canada are concerned about the Inseason Closure of Halibut to the Recreation sector and the DFO Halibut Allocation that is causing it.

The Kitimat Halibut Allocation Task Force plans to invite the Prime Minister to our Town Hall Meeting and we are offering to pay for his plane fare to Kitimat.

Stay Tuned to this website for more details as we progress.

Dicks!

Reminds me of a story I once read in which someone received a response similar to this one. On it was a yellow sticky note which the receiver of the original complaint letter had placed on the original complaint letter as instructions for the admin. staff who prepared the response letter. Inadvertently the sticky note got left on the response letter when it was mailed out. The sticky note said “Send this idiot the usual kiss off letter.”.

Well heck, I had to go through the Minister of Finance...that sucks! At least his inbox probably isn't quite so full - maybe I'll get a response this year!
