I assume there is a very low chance of getting Vibrio that will kill you or end in removing an appendage. Wear gloves, don't scratch yourself and keep a bottle of disinfectant close would seem to be prudent precautions.

Do we have much in the way of Vibrio of this nasty type in our waters?

I was going to post my nasty cut in the another thread .Had the wire of a cheap box style crab trap breeak while closeing .the force was a pull and the wire on the trap let go . Rusted weld let go .ripped through glove. three inner knuckles and a pinki finger tip.
