Just moved to 7 potatoes 3 weeks ago. Went out with the wife and kidlet cruising around the Gulf Islands on a beauty day on Monday. Have fished Hardy and Nootka when I lived on the Sunshine Coast, but am looking for a few good bets within day trip range. It's tough to get away from the 2 year old and wifey for more than a day, and the wee one doesn't last too long in the boat. Any thoughts? Lighthouse off of Gabriola I heard was getiing better. How about Port Alberni???? Any info would be appreciated. I can't wait to get out, and am finally glad to be over hear. Nootka last summer was a twleve hour adventure one way from the Coast.:D

Nootka still more than a day trip but you can be in the water from Nanaimo in 4hrs. Nanaimo sucks unless you want to wrangle with a 200lbs seal everytime. Try French Creek now, Campbell River Aug/Sept, and Port Renfrew Aug/Sept. Road to Renfrew now is great. Less than 2hrs in the water fishing. Don't do Alberni anymore when it's open it is pole to pole. Hope that helps my two cents

Went out to Neck point this morning. Probably half a dozen boats, only saw one small one landed. Tried everything in the box. Anybody have any fesh reports of local Nanaimo area stuff? Gabriola etc.
Had the father-in-law out, made the mistake of letting him play captain will I was rigging up some more gear. In the wind he managed to get us spun around and cut one line off on the opposite side down riggger. I thought I lost it all. Pulled up the other rigger, and the flasher and everything was hanging off of it. Saved 50 bucks there. It got a little snotty out there, so we packed it in. Any reports would be good. Thanks.
