Damage Caused By Braided Line

I have a older set of Scotty down riggers and found that the braided lined as been cutting into my line guide. The guide half way down the boom. Now I am using Scotty line on a Scotty rigger and thought that they would warranty the part. But NO they will not cover damage caused by the use of their line. That sucks.

I will mention my guide is the older one with the solid white bushing inside. I do know that they have redesigned the guide with a floating guide inside. I have to wonder if it was changed do to the fact braided line was damaging the older version.

I have an older 30" boom electric downrigger, vintage similar to yours. I have wire on it and also had the solid bushing being cut by the wire. I loosened the attachment then turned the bushing to a new undamaged spot.
I have some newer downriggers as well. I think the new floating bushing on them is likely an improvement.

Well with the wonderfull advice I tried turning the inner piece, and it worked.:) Thank You.. Just saved me $30 replacing the parts. I will watch them carefully to see if it was the cable but I am very in tune with my gear and never noticed the damage before. I have been running braided for 2 years and have read about the damage caused by braided that is why I would think of it to be the cause.

All the years I ran cable and never had problems, but I still will never go back to cable.
