crab/prawn trap bouy idenification

This year I was told we need to add our fishing ID# to the bouy .Is this the truth? How do you remark a bouy so you may fish traps with it this year.

Not that I know of... you will need the standard name and phone number

You only need your name.
Phone number is just a suggestion.
Whoever said that about fishing id is probably thinking about commercial traps

I think it's crazy that they don't make the phone number mandatory also. I mean how many john smiths are dfo going to try and contact if a trap is fishing illegally, and if you want your trap returned if it's drifted away or got sucked under for a while in current how many people are going to bother looking up phone numbers to return them.

I do think most of the regular rec fishers do put their phone numbers on their bouys, but aheny is correct, you only need your name on it.

DFO once told me a couple yrs ago , that all sports traps must have name and phone number clearly on bouy.
if not is considered a ghost trap and they suggest pulling ghost traps out of water.
they did not say what to do with traps after they are pulled...just that unmarked ghost traps should be pulled.
