Control Cables Volvo Penta.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with changing the control cables out on a Volvo Penta DP SM . I currently have to reef hard on the side shift to go back from Forward to Neutral, and on my last outing the boat throttle wouldn’t drop below 1000 RPM even when shifted to neutral. Boat just had extensive repairs and the mechanic thinks the time out of the water caused the cables to seize. No problem going from Reverse to Neutral and although very stiff the throttle seems to accelerate, just doesn’t want to decelerate. I’m thinking the side shifter mechanism and will look at it first, but if it is the cables, where can you get the part number and length? Can the average guy change them out or our special tool etc needed.

They should be 3300 series cables. Pretty standard stuff. Universal. The cables have 10/32 threaded ends.

Is it difficult to thread the new cables through? I’m thinking of tying a line on the old cables and then using the line to pull the new cable through. Not sure if this not a good plan for the non professional.

Usually it's always difficult 😆

All boat dependent of course. If they are loose can use the old to help pull the new. Usually one million sharp zip ties later they become loose.
