Many years ago - I used to go through each parties platform, and try to guess which party might be the best of the worst wrt policies/actions/impacts. But after several decades of dealing with both government and the political parties I have learned that they basically throw out the shiny policy once they are elected, and tend to listen to the lobbyists that show up on their doorstep in Ottawa - sometimes doling out envelopes of money and stock options listed in a near-relative's name.

Politicians will try to do the 30 second soundbite every once in a while, and especially near an election to make it sound like they did something wonderful that only they could accomplish to appease their base that is stuck on confusing party allegiance with good governance.

Having said that - our current dysfunctional government needs turfing. And we don't need the WEF taking over Canada, neither. I think and hope Canadians have enuff sense to know what more of the same means.

The Liberal Platform of 30% Marine Protected Areas sounds like more areas closed to fishing and further reduction in our opportunities! Also no mention of any MSF opportunities.
EXACTLY CC! I posted about this previously at: https://sportfishingbc.com/threads/mpa-documentry.97358/

and mentioned:

there is NO DEFENSIBLE SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE for Trudeau's governments assertion that they want "Canada’s path to 25 per cent ocean protection by 2025" https://www.canada.ca/en/fisheries-...-to-25-per-cent-ocean-protection-by-2025.html

It is only for a political reason - for a 30 second soundbite promoted by ENGOs.

And the ENGOs are pushing for 100% closure - because they will have their jobs afterwards. They don't have to live with the negative consequences of these decisions they are advocating for. Typical.

Instead, the government could have claimed that they would close 100% of the known lingcod egg deposit shoals in the spring from fishing gear - and close 100% of the areas holding staging Eulachons from shrimp trawl door boat gear during March/April and had their 30 second soundbite. But they would have to understand how the numerous, very different & diverse fisheries operate and their bycatch and take this into consideration if they did that. And that's not what Parks Canada does - DFO does that. The wrong agency is being used to regulate fisheries here.

I waded through as much of the feedback report as I could before it just became redundant.

What I read

Every group wants someone else to take less, this includes one FN pitted against different FN
REC fisheries are targeted coast wide by each and every FN in some manner
Steelhead get screwed by everybody and FN nets never catch any
I might have missed it somewhere but I didn't see any proposals to cull pinipeds as part of the solution
SEP are not a priority and DFO/govt would love to cancel as many as possible

It was depressing reading

These 338 polls were pretty accurate in previous years. Looking like the Island will be mostly blue with a little red riding hood in Victoria. The island is voting for better management. The rest of Canada is unaware of our problems...

Courtney-Alberni - CPC likely
Cowichan-Malahat-Langford - CPC likely
Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke - Toss Up - CPC, NDP, LPC - 68% chance of CPC
Nanaimo-Ladysmith - CPC leaning
North Island-Powel River - CPC safe
Saanich-Gulf Islands - Toss Up - CPC, GPC - 53% chance of CPC
Victoria - LPC leaning

I get sick of folks saying I voted for who ever, because fishing is a less important isdue than whatever other issue I care about more ...... make your choice and then don't complain because NDP or Liberals don't care about sport fishing, hunting or firearms. You made your choice and if reconciliation or park closured are less important that whatever else you decided on then thats your choice. Your choice but don't be surprised. At the end of the day be thankful we gave a choice.
