I am coming to the Vancouver area later in August. I know the area is great for fly fishing, but I need recommendations for public stream or lake fishing within a 2 hour drive. What areas should I research? Is 4x or 5x rod ok for trout?

I apprecicate this forum, I just need basic info.

Sorry, but I live on the Island.
Is there still fish living there?

Certainly is many lakes within 2 hrs of central Vancouver however most are well taxed & more a nice place for a boat ride. Now if you wanted to drive three hrs its a whole new game. The nicola Valley thru to Kamloops is some of the most famous trout fishery in the world. The pass from Meritt south to Princeton also has some tremendously productive lakes as well. Late August isn't the best time of the year for trouting. Try looking up some of the fish camps under Kamloops on the web & see what you can find. Good Luck & welcome
