Cleaning fishing gear

Well I had an accident happen and I got a lovely gas/thick oil mix all over a bunch of fishing gear, flashers, hoochies, spoons, a spreader bar, 2lb lead weights, a few of my halibut lures all over my downrigger release clips etc..probably well over $150 worth of fishing gear. :( I was thinking of putting most of the stuff in the dishwasher, but not sure that's the best choice. Any suggestions on how to go about cleaning them all? Hand cleaning all of it would take forever, not to mention trying to clean the mix off hoochies, and all the little crevasses in some of the gear would not be worth my time. Thanks

I think you answered your own question if is not worth your time. I would not put it in the dishwater but a tub of super clean it will take alot to clean that crap off. Post up here for free somebody will spend the time to clean if its not worth your time to clean. Just saying.

i think dishwasher should help. I've put all sorts of stuff in our dishwasher. Giver.

Have you thought about putting in a 5 litre pail with water and either a detergent that breaks down grease/oil or just spray it all with something like simple green? Let it sit for a while.....and then hit it with the hose in the bucket. Rinse.....and repeat until cleaned up?

There have to be some automotive grade cleaners which would help eat through the oil....or break it down? What about Dawn dish detergent? It apparently takes heavy crude off birds and sea otters ;)....just a heavy concentration with water in a bucket and spray it like crazy after a while with the hose?

Old schoolers swear that Lemon Joy is the best for cleaning tackle.

Not just because it's a cleaner.......but because they say that lures cleaned with lemon Joy catch more fish.

I am not on septic so no worries, I thought the dishwasher might destroy some of them or the stickers/colours but I guess I would try it out before just getting rid of the gear. Ill drop it all in a bucket of warm soapy water first and see where that gets me if not I'll try the dishwasher, if not watch the buy/sell section for a pile of oil covered sticky gear LOL
