check up on your boats

[Charter Tofino]

so i get a call this morning from a friend that told us that one finger at our local dock had fallen apart. Our boat was not on it but our friends 50 foot was not as lucky. The steel boat is a beautiful custom cruiser and drifted onto the nearby rocks outside of the marina. By the time we saw it the boat had travelled half a km and was up on teh rocks with the tide receding. Its now on the rocks with severe damage to the drive shaft most likely and the hull itself is badly damaged. Another friend saw a boat driftin by his water front home with nobody around. Coast guard was there controlling one of the boats but the weather is hampering efforts. We are going to help try and move the boat tommorow.

I saw that one while we fished the bay on Christmas eve! Makes me nervous to keep the boat in my spot out on D dock with all the SE winds lately!

I went to sunny shores on dec 16th a couple of days after that really big westerly we had and there were some boats that broke free and they did get damaged a bit especially a 2601 striper the left chine was almost all gone as The owner of the marina went and got it off the rocks for the owner as he was away somewhere.the marina took a bit of a hit as well.

If anyone saw it was on the local news. The hulls been breeched and salvage boat will try to get it tommorow. Other people we know that live on an island tried to make the short run to the marina in a 16 foor lund and were swamped. it sunk and the 4 of them were in the water 25 minutes before being spotted and then rescued. hypothermic they were rushed to hospital. Sorta scary especially when you know the people. take it easy
