Charts for iPad?

Is anyone aware of a chart app for iPad which has BC waters on it. Found a couple, but only have Europe and / or the US.

I have used navionics for 3 years on iPhone and 1 year on ipad. I just use the iphone app on my ipad and it works fine. Although the display is slightly smaller than the ipad app. About 20% smaller. I have bought all the upgrades on the app and it works very well. iPhone app Probably costs about 1/3 of the ipad app.

You can only put in 200 waypoints in either app.

IMPORTANT - Glare can be a problem depending on your boat and how you mount the ipad. No problem on our boat however as the place it is mounted means when driver looks at the screen the "reflection" angles up to the ceiling of the hardtop.... So there is no reflection. If the reflection angled out the window or out the back of the boat in sun it would be very hard to read. So think carefully about where you will mount it. And you need a charger nearby.

Sonar charts is great especially if you like to bottom fish, prawn etc

You need the data capable ipad or you will have to attach a gps to a wifi model.

Hope this helps someone.

I have the iPad and iPhone app.

The iPad app is significantly superior in the contour it provides when compared to the iPhone app.

Some areas have 20x the contour lines in the exact same location.

If I could get the iPad app on my iPhone I would pay the $54 again, as it provides HDS quality contour as opposed to HDI contour (for any Lowrance guys out there....)

If anyone knows how to get the additional contour on the iphone, please share the secret!

I've got the Navionics app for my iPad and also use the sonicharts extensively. The charts that came with my Raymarine e7D chartplotter don't even come close to tge detail provided by the sonar sounding charts provided by Navionics. My Raymarine chartplotter has now been relagated to fish finding duty only now. Only problem was iPad dying which was easily dealt with by installing a $30 water proof USB dual power port, handy for the cell phone as well.

Here is a pic with the Lionsgate bridge on the right ,this is the iPhone app on my ipad with the navionics map

And here is the sonarcharts map. You can switch between them

The iPhone app has had course up navigation for more than a year now but the ipad app just got it in the last 6 weeks in the latest upgrade

My buddy has the ipad app and I think the detail is the same if you buy the same upgrades. But the iPhone app does not cover the full screen of the ipad.

After spending 4 days on the water with the iPhone app, iPad app, lowrance HDS, and HDI, I agree with Wonder. ^

The iPhone has the same contour as the iPad if you turn on Sonarcharts, but the screen size of the iPad is extremely nice.

The Lowrance HDS has the same contour as the Sonar charts, but the HDI does now. Is it possible to upgrade the HDI to Sonarcharts? I current have nAvionics gold aftermarket chip.

Also - has anyone tried one of the wifi transducers that transmits data wirelessly to iPhone or ipad? That could be some next level sh*t once they get that working well.

Just ordered a skookum looking mount for my iPad, a RAM brand. Last summer the iPad Navionics charts were very useful during a trip from Kelsey Bay to Comox and back. But the iPad, laying on the dash, would reboot after some of the pounding. So I have hopes this new mount will take out some of the shock, and make it easier to see up under the cabin roof. And have a 12 volt line to it to keep it in power. As a Navigation only tool it beats the old Raymarine hands down for looking around the neighbourhood as you go.
A week or two ago I spotted a transducer- wifi combo for about $200.00 online and if it works , that would be a great thing. Lost the link but will try dig it up...
This is the iPad gripper - mount.

That's what I use to hold my ipad on the boat - a ram mount. The one I have is a suction cup to the window and it's incredibly strong. That said, like any suction device, they will come loose over time if you don't clean the window and reapply over time. There are two sets of holes on the bracket that holds the ipad that allow you to pick a height and preferred orientation. Since the holes are designed to hold recessed nuts, I used one of the unused mounting holes to attach a safety cord. In brief, I took a length of tuna cord and tied a knot in it near one end. I fed the tuna cord through one of the unused holes and out the back of the unit. The knot buried in the recess. I tied the other end to the bracket of an adjacent Lorwance fixed mount HDS-8. That way if the suction comes loose, the mount can only drop a few inches. You can also bolt the mounts directly to a flat surface if you buy the right base and don't mind adding holes to the dash.
