Changing to hydraulic steering

So if my Trophy doesn't sell ( and really I'm happy to keep it) I'd like to change the cable steering on my Mercruiser leg to Hydraulic. Anyone done this, like does the power steering unit on the engine come off also. Is there a Seastar kit or what.

Hey Ed, yes there is a kit for that. Also yes the steering pump comes off and the belt gets changed. Depending on the model of the engine. Some are different as far as the belt and routing goes

well i did my 4.3 V6 used the original steering ram and worked fine bleed all the ATF out used a Seastar helm and had my lines made up from airline compression fittings used AW32 oil..
installed it all myself done away with the assisted power steering ... so gave the engine a few HP back to boot
i also took it a stage further and put 3 way valves in so i could run the kicker from the helm
no tie bar needed and fitted RC servo on the carb so could dial in throttle control on the kicker .....
