Having a day to reflect on things. I think it was/is a good idea to challenge every ticket that the DFO issues if you think you have a chance of beating it. It makes the DFO work for the payment. Thinking about it, the officer has to prepare all of the Discovery material. That likely takes the better part of a half day. Typed reports, hand written notes, photos, regulations, copies of the infraction, copies of entries into their xxxx system, and typed Will Say statement. They then have to scan all of that information into the Titan secure server system and send it to Crown Counsel for review. I suspect Crown Counsel contacts the DFO officer (not sure on this part) as the Crown seemed to understand the facts very well. Then, the court system needs to manage and book a date for the pre-trial. It’s a fair bit of work effort by them to get to a pre-trial hearing. Once the pre-trial date is set, you can pay the fine, if you decide to, with zero increase in the cost.
I don’t agree with vengeance………normally. But I suspect a lot of people just pay. Delaying payment by pleading not guilty within the first 30 days of receipt of the ticket just means you can pay later and make the bastards work for payment. Like “Ole Vic” used to say…….”Just one mans view”.
