Cell phone coverage offshore Ucluelet.....

Yes telus is so far far better than rogers around here. Thats nice to have service so far off ukee. Wish we hat that here in tuff. I am looking to try to get at least textable service around clayoquat canyon this tuna season. I don't have a wife so no issues there. It is no surprise tho how many times my friends wives text my phone when they know there mr's are with me....relentless.

Well if you can use a cell 30 miles off ukee and draw a line from the top of ozard to 30 miles towards the tofinos off shore waters then the line from where service ends (12 miles aprox) off tofino does meet with the 30 mile line from the top of oxard. where would a signal come from off nootka? I have spent a little time off Estevan and never had a signal if find it hard to believe that further out there would be service. BUT: there are such things as bounces. I hunt in a spot around sayward and there is no service anywhere out there down in the valleys except for one spot on about 200 feet of road. How does it get there. There is no service anywhere out there but that spot. Strange but cool and useful.

It's weird where you can pick up signals. My TELUS phone doesn't work period in Kyuquot but a buddy who had his Rogers phone was somehow able to use Blackberry Messenger when we were at Kyuquot Reef a couple of years ago??? I don't think he could actually text or receive emails but Messenger was working somehow as we were texting a buddy who was fishing in Telegraph Cove.

If you REALLY need to get messages it was kind of funny what we did.....grabbed everyone's phone who needed to get emails checked on, jumped in by buddy's plane and flew until we got some "bars" of service and let everyone's phone upload all emails. This was before Kyuquot was "wired for wifi".

All aboard the C-**** to get some coverage!!!

If you really want crappy cell range, Use Bell.

To my understanding they should be using a fair bit of the TELUS infrastructure in the west. Both companies are building their new HSPA network together so I wouldn't imagine there being much difference??? It's been years since I have used Bell so I can't really comment on their coverage on the WCVI though.

That is awesome! I want your friends.

Pippen, those are pricy emails and messages. I'd do the same. I would be the guy volunteering to take everyone's phones all the time. I love to fly.

Telus and Bell would be the only two that have service out that way. The coverage maps for each seem very similar, which isn't surprising as Bell uses Telus towers out west and Telus uses Bell towers back east.

I have a wilson booster that sticks to the back of your phone. Works good where reception is iffy boosts it enough to get a call out. I also have a globalstar satelite phone. Cost about the same. I would get a sat phone for the money

Whats the sat phone plan cost though? Cost per minute?

30$ per month unlimited use. Service is intermitent but you can download drom globalstars website a five day table of when it will be working.i would say its 30-40 min of the hour you have service. And the table is bang on.
