Richard Gillet is known for his three seasons on the reality show Cold Water Cowboys. Gillett is protesting what he says is dire mismanagement of stocks ranging from crab to capelin.
He started a hunger strike last Thursday, his demands include a teleconference call with federal Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc and an independent review of science and management for all provincial fish stocks.

Used to be a time when the Federal Fisheries minister would attend the Pacific Gillnetters Association AGM.
Nowadays, nobody from DFO brass steps outside an air-conditioned tower.
He should be protesting in Ottawa, not St. Johns. The problem with DFO starts at the top.

I had many of the same feelings he states when forced out of commercial fishing by politics, unfortunately, nobody cares enough.
I hope for the sake of his family that his mental state stays strong.
Chirp away about commies all you want, but this is a tragedy for all.

Good luck to him.
Doesn't seem like he's asking for much....

Wow isn't this the same show that targets bait fish like herring? Maybe if their fleet let the bait thrive they would see the return of cod etc.

They're going to do what DFO allows them to do through their rules. maybe it's the rules and quotas that need looking into...

Saltwater Cowboys is a joke....... Is this guy is representative of the rest of that pack down east????

Have you ever been to the east coast Cuba Libre? I've worked there on 3 different occasions, spent quite a bit of time back there and met my wife there. It's like going back in time 20 or 30 years in some places. Yes, It's different than where you're from. Not always a bad thing...

Watched the show a few times and I'm having a hard time seeing why some of the guys here think this man is a tool. I'd agree with bigdog from what I've seen.

But maybe I missed something.

Don't be a offended. Lads out that way are real men, in all my time I've never seen a real man get offended.
4 sure OnTick - although Brigitte Bardot and the IFMP/PETA seem to do a good job of that, though... offending everyone
