Catfish in elk lake

I’ve been interested in doing some fishing for catfish on my own at elk lake or some other lakes but I just don’t know where to fish for catfish. And I don’t have a boat so I’m gonna be fishing from shore. The bait that I’m gonna try using is some corn, worms and maybe some power bait if that works. I don’t really know what rig is good for elk lake so I would appreciate some help.

As kids we used to catch them in Trout Lake in Vancouver. Chunk of wiener was what we used for bait.
That old warf rotted away years ago, but that sure was a neat spot to fish from. We didn't get out camping or fishing as kids so that was my urban nature. Right after getting a combo burger and candy from the ball park, of course.

I see people fishing from shore at several areas of Elk Lake - along the highway, between the playground and the boat ramp on the north end, and along the west side, mainly at the fishing dock which you can drive to. Along the west side you can see [and hear] schools of fish [maybe carp?] attacking the surface. Several dozen at a time and their splashing is audible for quite a distance. No idea about catfish.

Don’t know for sure but don’t think there are catfish. Rainbow & cutthroat trout, bass, and some very large carp (see pic).

There are brown bullhead in Elk Lake and some other local lakes. They are part of the catfish family but remain much smaller than the catfish game fish species back east and south. The bullhead max out at 20" and maybe 4 pounds. Most are only 10" or less.

Caught lots of catfish in Elk in the 90’s when my son was just a little guy. Caught them on the troll while trout fishing. Never kept one or any other fish from Elk but they are there, possibly what Chris says, most were around the 20” mark tho

I think there are a lot of Carp and suckers in most lakes in BC and that one in the photo is a good size for a smaller lake.

Growing up In Kelowna we would go to the bakery and get old dough from the garbage and then down to the bridge area or ferry docks. bait up a triple hook with some dough and throw it out to bottom. Always got carp in the 5lb+ range. Then off to sell them in China town for $.10 each

Bigger the lake, the bigger the carp. The problem with them is they have more bones than any fish I have ever seen.

I caught a Bass out of Trout Lake as a kid. Poking arounf for Tadpoles and decided to just plunge the Net in up against the spongy bog and caught the Bass. I think we were both in shock but Ilet him go.

There's a Carp called Rohu you can find in Bengali restaurants that has bones like curved sabers-sharp sabers; the first time I ordered it they were reluctant to sell it to me since eating one is such a delicate undertaking you have to use your fingers to dissemble the thing and they give you a large plate just for those rib bones.

I now live across the street from there and I swear the other day I saw something jump that looked to be at least 5lb. I've considered tossing a line in.
