Canvas windshield zippers

Just thought I'd throw this one out there to see if anyone has tried it. My existing canvas top on my boat is still in great shape, but I would like to have two, U shaped zippers in the clear, windshield fabric.

Anyone ever got boat top manufacturer to put a zipper in an existing windsheild? I can't see why it would be any different than putting zippers in a new top, but I thought that I see what everyone thought.

A friend of mine when he had his top redone used Velcro around the windows. Then when he wants to open them slightly or completely remove them he just pulls them off. 3 years now and they still work great.
