Howdy all, can anyone tell me if there is a Cannon repair depot on Vancouver Island? I can't seem to get my auto return feature to operate. I have to hold on to the switch for it to surface. It's a pain in the butt from 200ft. Thanks in advance.;) eman

It's days like today you'll wish you had Scotty's. I know, I know... Very helpful.

I know there are Cannon dealers on the island......I think Gone Fishin' used to be

Maybe phone them up and go from there

or go to Cannon website and look up "find a dealer near you".....

Just spoke with the Cannon Rep. There WILL be a service center (one perhaps two) on the Island by this fall. Likely Nanaimo, and definite possibly of one in Victoria. Perhaps not quite quick enough for your issue today, but this IS being dealt with.

I've run high end Cannons for years now, as has Charlie on this Forum. Mark my words, we use and abuse them a LOT! They are IMHO The BEST downrigger out there! Try them. My guess is once you do, you will NEVER go back to anything with lesser performance standards!

Cheers!

IronNoggin.......do you run wire or braid on your Cannons.?

and if using the stock Cannon wire, which has a current running through it all the time to control auto stop I believe.....do you ever experience voltage issiues in the wire?

X2 based on Charlie and Matts advice bit the bullet and upgraded to a pair of Digitroll mag10 Tournament canons this spring, and will at this time never switch back
. Absolutely no issues, the auto down depth feature, auto up, smooth retrieve and decent is worth the healthy dollars invested. Having run Scottys for years they are good bang for your buck, Canons are IMHO leaps and bounds ahead of them. Like upgrading from a Diawa reel to a Islander, and of course the dollars invested between the two. Just my two cents.

I have Canon's as well - the boat I bought in the US last fall came with them - and while I find them OK, I do have a couple of issues. First, because the auto shut off only works when the steel line breaks the water, it is very difficult to stack rods. Second, you cannot use braided line. You don't have to use the Canon steel line, BTW - any steel line will work. If you need parts, go to www.fish307.com. They have pretty much all of the parts you could want for Canon's at reasonable prices. They will ship to Canada via USPS, although it can take a couple of weeks to get stuff.

Cannon Wire. Never had an issue. Voltage on the ones I have is controlled by a dial on the downrigger and works very similar to a black box. Brings them running. :D
