I am currently having issues with my 82 Merc 80 not firing on 2 cylinders and was wondering if anybody could reccomend a reputable mechanic in the Campbell River area or suggest any possible causes for my problem.

Thanx

chek your coils, you may have a bad one...maybe you have a bad plug or screwed plug wire..doesne`t sound like a major problem, sounds like electrical, also chek all your ground wires for broken or any corosion..

All plugs have been replaced, changed one coil on one of the affected cylinders did nothing, plug wires also seem fine no breaks etc. Grounds are good I've taken all of them off and sanded down the contacts.

have you done a compresion test,if you have a cylinder with bad compresion it won`t fire either, next question was it running fine before being stored,or was it running fine then all the sudden a cylinder quit firing?

do a compresion test, sounds like the head gasket is hooped...the other thing to try ,if your compresion is low,or none exesting in the two cylinders then re-torque your head bolts, and see if that helps, before replacing the gasket..overall not a big job if its the head gasket, and no problems getting parts for that merc...

Thanx for your input gonefishin i'll do the test and look into changin the head gasket, it'd sure be nice to not have to put much $ into such an old motor!
