C Dory Looking to buy any comments appreciated

Just for info.......they are a composite hull......the ones I looked at did not seem to have much standing freeboard height on the inside deck compared to other boats. (distance from floor to top of gunwale).

Great little boats. C-brats is your friend when it comes to C-Dory's.

Probably one of the best boat owners forums on the net.

I really like the C-Dory's and researched them quite a bit a few years ago. Almost bought one before I found my current ride. They are a misunderstood boat but the people that get it get it.

Although I don't know alot about them. I am not a fan of the hull design. Round chines and flat bottomed, they were originally designed to be able to get into shallow waters and for that they are a good design. Get them out into any sea and I suspect that they will pound pretty good and wallow. It really depends on your application. Inside waters should be ok, outside waters? Hmmmmm

My friend has a 16 angler so its slightly different than the one shown, having said that I agree with FA the roof is a little low. The beam is about 8 iches more narrow than my 16 double eagle so I have a little more room than the Dory, I do consider the Dory to be a 2 person machine where I have up to 3 adults and 2 nine year olds during sockeye season.

The flat bottom of the Dory provides better fuel effcinecy and a nice ride on calm waters and open ocean rollers. Were the flat bottom fails in my opinion is choppy water I tape my mouth shut in fear of my fillings falling out of my head.

Bottom line would I but one... Yes if I only ever fished with one other person, they are a nice small stable boat and cheap to run.

Anyone with any experience on the 19 or 22 foot C-Dories? They look very seaworthy while being easy on fuel. They also look like they have great fishing capability.

I don't have any on the water experience with them but have crawled around on them quite a bit. I would cruise around the C-brats site that I posted and look around there. I did for over a year and you learn a lot about these boats. They are a different way of thinking that most people don't understand. Most folks are familiar with deep v's and running fast in chop.

These boats will plane at around 10-12 knots!!! (which can be an advantage in rough weather). They will pound in the chop if you try to go the speed of a double eagle or what have you in the same conditions. You just have to learn to slow down. Everyone now a days wants to go fast ( myself included lol). There is one member over on C-brats called Sealion who has had his 22' angler way offshore tuna fishing. There are various folks that travel from Wash. to Alaska quite a bit in their 22' cruisers.

The cruiser is considered the volkswagon van of the sea lol! I can see why as that is alot of boat in a small package.

Cheers,
John

Please tell that to the faC-dory guy's cause I think they would disagree with you lol.

A little testing on the CR bar crossing!!!

They will Cruz at around 10 mph. The dory hull is a very seaworthy hull but you must slow down in chop. Dory can carry a lot of weight and are very stable at rest. C dory have a balsa core bottoms no stringers this makes the light yet very rigid. A 22 footer full load on the trailer is only 4500lbs not bad. They have a cult following and normally have a very high resale especially in the pacific north west. Cbrats is probably the best single boat brand website in the world. I use the website for many things to do with boating fishing and cruzing. They are lights weight, tough, good looking and high priced. If you don't mind going slow and dealing with fiberglass I think there your best bet!!

That's a nice boat! I want to ride in one.
A real beauty so well cared for.

In direct contrast there's a smaller one @ the Spruce Harbour Marina in False Creek that's rotting @ the dock-the guy pays for moorage but never takes it out I guess he can't afford to since his old 2 stroke Merc died so it just sits there collecting mussels in the rain.

my good friend has one and loves it. he has cruised to many distant locations with his wife onboard. his is powered with a 70hp Etec. the back deck is pretty small so 2 people pretty much use all of the available space when fishing. as with any smaller boat, the V berth is not made for king sized people.
