do you wash the salt off them after use? that smell associated with your dads old Plano tackle box is improperly washed off gear. raw water pump water is just putrid

It's the off gassing from Butyrate plastic. TOMIC, Hot Spot and Krippled all use it because of its density and other interesting properties. Most companies do not use Butyrate because the companies that shoot the molds say it is an old material that is hard to source. There is a reason that these named companies stick with it year after year.

SCOTT PLASTICS used to shoot for them and many other fishing companies back in the day. Partially why there was such a pocket of companies whose base was Butyrate. I believe Rhys Davis was also shot with the same plastic by Scotty up until Gibbs bought the brand and took it to China.

Other common plastic lure bases are PVC and TPE and they are not as dence but offer other characteristics. They also don't off gas the same as Butyrate. .
