Hiroshi in BC Fisheries have regulations about packaging and transporting your catch.They are in place so a fisheries officer can determine how many fish and what species you have.There is also possession limits you should check out before coming up here.

you certainly took those comments a "LOT" better than I would have!
[V] Just so you and everyone else knows… I CARRY A FREEZER on my boat! In addition, I have several Canadians friends and they also CARRY FREEZERS! And I have seen a lot of 7-8 foot freezers at both Canadian and U.S. campsites! Which, by- the- way are mostly full of “OUR” Yankee fish! Your thought with the freezer is absolutely correct!
Just make sure you stay within regulations. I am happy to give you some insight and advice! To start, I have had some type of freezer on my boat since 1997. Some big, some small and for several weeks at a time. Tied down and mounted "securely" in my aft cockpit and in plain view! Since 1997, there has not been one Canadian or U.S. official ever open any of my freezers. Freezers get inspected often at ferry terminals, but seldom on boats.
If you look in the regs you will find how DFO recommends transporting your catch, you should abide by that? You do need to remember since the freezer will be on your boat, do not attempt or put the fish in the freezer to soon, it could ruin the meat? The other thing since you are going to be to Campbell River area, when you do limit don’t worry! Get in touch with Northwest Sea Planes in Renton. They have scheduled flights in that area and will arrange to fly your freezer full fish out. They also have a freezer storage facility across the street from their main office. They will be glad to transport and setup storage until you get back… and then you can go catch another limit! In addition, you can continue to do that until you have reached your annual limit! Just so you know the daily or possession limits for “all” licensed anglers cannot be exceeded while the fish are in your control and in Canada. Once that plane or fish crosses the border into the USA - it is out of Canadian law, regulations and jurisdiction… and you are free to fish!
I don’t see a problem with anyone asking for advice or help, regardless of Nationality, Race, or Creed, especially when that someone is not only interested in the take, but is actively supporting the fishery?

Hey Charlie chances are pretty good that the ling cod from Sonora arent "YOUR" fish. I would be a little concerned about overfishing these fish in the Sonora area which are just beginning to recover from almost extinction. I know for a fact the Lodges up in the Sonora area are not promoting the Ling Cod fishery hoping the stocks will recover!! I know for the past couple yrs the Salmon Fishery in the area has been dismal at best. Which coincides with the dismal returns for our local rivers here on the Island not "YOUR" fish. Cowichan, etc. The Cowichan was so bad this yr who knows there might be some new rules this yr for the inside. I know you do your homework Charlie and I appreciate your opinion but it disgusts me that you would talk about shipping freezers back home and then starting all over again from scratch? Ive heard stories of this happening such as guys up here camping with there canners,smokers etc but never really heard it straight from the horses mouth. Makes you wonder whats happening with our stocks. YOURS are 20 miles offshore on the West Coast not always accesible to the average Island Sports fisherman with a 16 fter.

The ideal behind possession limits was to stop guys from setting up fish camps, that is why it is illegal to can fish outside your residence.But I guess there is always a way around this if you have the time and money to fly your fish out and then start all over again like Charlie states.

What are you thinking Butte is 150 miles from there? Are you just throwing crap? Where does the Cowichan come into play? Most of those fish migrate down through the Strait from Port Hardy? Concerning the Sonora area? Tell him… not me! I quit fishing that area years ago for those very reasons. That whole area has been a little sparse since the mid 90’s.
