when i acquired my e-tec a few years ago it was explained to me that the technology was under patent but was set to expire and that other manufacturers would be jumping on the tech when that happened. never investigated this claim and it had no influence on my choice (love the e-tec) but perhaps this is a factor? maybe the agreement with merc and the fact that merc has the opti brand....maybe we will see a merc-tec? opti-tec? opt-e?
This is what I am hoping for. Silly to let the etec technology die.
It is my opinion that if one removed branding loyalty, and stigma over the older 2 strokes, and just focused on a pound for pound comparison, the current 2 stroke tech would
win out all day long.
