We were up last sunday, for a 12 and 25 spring along with the pinks. Likely make another trip on the weekend and wondering how it's been this week?

Where is Brown's Bay lazo? I belive it is near Cambell river...correct?
I know they have the dog derby there in or around October and was thinking of maybe attending this year.

Hey Getbent! The Dog derby is a ton of fun!!!!!And ripple rock camping is top notch.great club house and and facilities.Fishing was bad last year and we still had a great time out there.

No place I would rather be (FISH ON)

The derby is held in the later weeks of October and lasts for two days. There are beer gardens and I believe there was live music last year as well.

Unfortunately the commercial boys made there way into the area and started to clean house. I hope this year the commercial opening is pushed to a later date.

Chum Derby Oct.16th thru 18th

Just got back lots of Pinks. 1 Coho,2 Springs. Only 1 Spring in the boat though. Great day..Not bad for 4 hours.

Cheers,

Flat calm. Lots of tide. Fished the flood. If I recall only NW winds hit the Browns Bay Area. That is why we went. Called first. As the water here was nasty.

Big Q in the morning then to Point Holmes.

Looks like I will be back there tomorrow. Due to winds down south here. Catch me on 69 call for the Assassin. Glady share info.

Cheers,

For any skeptics out there regarding the Chum derby:

I have fished the Alberni Inlet since childhood and so usually AVOID derbies - way to many stressed out people - we do fish for fun right?

This is the one derby that I try to not miss, it is simply too much fun.
Almost everyone there has a fair amount of experience so the ramp runs smoothly, even the Separation Head tea party is civil with no one fighting the predominant trolling line.

I almost didn't post this positive review/preview since the one fear I have is that derby will become a victim of its success.

Now if only the RV park would keep the hot tub going!!!
Anyone have any ideas for managing that concept?
After a long rainy cold day the body could use a good soak!

Smiley.

Limit of Pinks today and one 12lb Coho. My first time fishing Brown's Bay this year and couldn't keep the pinks off the lines. Excellent day of fishing today!

Anyone got any recent info out of CR?
With the Alberni derby on this weekend I looking for other options and haven't tried Brown's yet this summer.
Most years by now you can get all 5 species there...
Thanks in advance.

There has been a big commercial opening for a cat food fishery since the begining of the week till the end of today in the straight so things have been a little slower around here recently.
Still a few pinks making it through and some Coho are strting to show up (remember HATCHERY ONLY!!!) and every now and again someone gets a tailender spring.
Give it a few days after the big boats are gone and it should pick up again.

I'm looking for some Browns Bay reports also, I did hear yesterday Greensea has been good from the Painters boats but not sure what to take from that. Deep Bay should be good right now or Browns might try it out this evening will post back.
