Braided downrigger line life

when do these braided lines need to be replaced?
I notice mine have thinned out considerably with use.
Does anyone lengthen these with the double uni knot successfully?

I cut off approx 20ft at the beginning of each season and re-tie to the swivel clip. Not sure about general lifespan.

Agreed. I re-tie the terminal gear annually.

I've been using cheap Amazon braid for three years and haven't had any issues. I just chop off the last ten feet and retie once a year. I would replace it instead of tying on another length and risk the knot breaking or snagging.

I have a few double uni knots in mine.
Jumped it off the spool and wrapped the post a couple times bouncing bottom in shallow water. Had to cut out a fray.
No issues, but use plenty of wraps for the knot. Pretty sure these lines are forever chemicals. Mine are at least 8 years old.
