I just want your opinion should I change my downrigger cable to braid or get a black box
I think the cost is about the same for 2 riggers or a black box

Thanks for your info
Cheers

aaah.. the good old braid/black-box question again....

Lots of posts about this in the past.....

At the risk of being redundant:-

If you are using wire and catching fish......don't do anything.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If you are using wire and not catching fish.....the black box is the last link in the chain you need to address.
Because before you put a black box on there are several things you need to have in good working order.

When you put a b/box on you will need these mentioned factors to be in good order because they work hand -in-hand with the box.

If you just bolt the black box in and turn it on....it may not cure anything at all....if all the other factors aren't aligned as per the wiring diagrams in the black box manual.

Do they outfish braid? IMO they don't.

I have a top-notch guide friend who used wire...and he caught lots of fish......used wire without a black box and that guy could catch fish in a glass of water.

Then he switched to braid......still catches the same amount of fish and he could still outfish you or me any day of the week.

For all the hassle and headache with tweaking voltages and constantly monitoring wiring factors with a black box (been there , done it), braid is a good choice.

Power Pro 200 braid I would recommend....

Screw steel..I used to be a believer.. Not anymore. Trust me I used to be the biggest advocate for using it. But do what you want everyone has an opinion.

I just sold a black box. They are 450-500 for the Scotty one I think.. Redoing braid much cheaper.... The debate has raged on here for years....

If it were me Power pro 200 with tuna chord to attach down rigger balls.

100% agree. Braid is just alot less hassle.

braid or steel, both work - just don't waste you money on black box voodoo magic. There is not one piece of actual evidence that they increase catch rates, not one.

Sure in little tanks they've established that certain currents repel fish, but we don't fish in fish tanks, its the great big ocean and your grear is 10-50' behind your ball and cable.

I run one braid and one wire, the fish haven't figured out the difference

I'm in the same boat so to speak ;)
One day the wire side kicks butt, next day the braid side kicks butt
If your curious just check your wire voltages, if there high start looking for a reason and fix it
Most of the time is poor grounding

Nice Son,
and Happy Birthday!!
