Another 7 days added to the area 19,20 early timed Fraser restrictions. DFO knows the biggest players in the take of these fish are in river FN fisheries and yet they increase the restrictions on the group who take less than 1%. There is no hope for salmon runs when politics interferes with doing what is needed. Next year more problems, less fish and another week will be added to the restrictions....a pattern being repeated over and over until its too late. I don't mind doing my part but I want results...or why bother!!!!!!!!!

Effective 00:01 hours Monday March 1, 2010 and until 23:59 hrs Friday May 21,
2010, additional recreational fishery restrictions on chinook salmon will be in
effect in Subareas 19-1 to 19-4 and Subarea 20-5(those waters near Victoria
between Cadboro Pt to Sheringham Pt.). During this time period and in this area
the daily limit is two (2) chinook salmon per day which may be wild or hatchery
marked between the size limit of 45 cm and 67 cm or hatchery marked only
chinook over 67 cm in length.

not sure that this reg. will impact us so greatly as most chinook
taken during this period are hatchery anyway...

ya it sure is tuff when we in area 29 are only allowed a 15 cm fish and up stream in the fraser they are gill netting the same springs go figure what the frig is that. it sure make a guy not want to start playing by any rules or by the regs pretty quick

It doesn't make me want to break the rules just makes me want to take DFO to court!!! Time to force them to truly protect salmon runs and rebuild them or get out of the way and let someone else do it.

Landed my first big one last year May 16th (25#). So that would have to go back now :( If I knew it would make it to the spawning beds up the Fraser I'd be ok with it, but the way it is I have my doubts...

I don't quite understand what they mean. Aren't they saying that if I catch a hatchery fish, it has to simply be larger than 45cms and a wild in the slot between 45 and 67cms?

If that's the case why not just say it in simple terms. Had to read this regulation about 6 times before I understood.

Of course DFO try to make it read as clear as mud :(

It should read :

" 2 chinook per day min 45cm, no retention of un-marked fish over 67cm from Mar 01/10 to May 21/10"

Correction :)

errr..not quite...no retention of unmarked over 67cm.

Another 7 days added. If they keep this up soon it will be catch and release all summer long. If it is less than 1% of the catch for the runs they want to protect, I agree, its politics not conservation. They are trying to give the impression of actually doing something but are afraid to take on the problem. Just more fuel cost and hydro-carbons in the environment to run up to Sheringham.
