Boat Trailer Rollers

I've noticed a few of my boat trailer rollers are stuck or barely moving, leaving black rubber steaks on my hull. What would be the best method to free them up, as they look in good condition. Thanks. eman

With boat off, take a strap wrench and see if they will free up. If they don't, they are not in good shape!

Thanks Ted, the strap wrench is a great tip. I can spin most rollers, the other few will turn but very reluctantly. What would be a good grease to loosen them with as well as maintain functionality? Thanks anyone. eman

The type of rubber or plastic used might not be grease friendly and will decompose. Best replace it.

You actually need to pop off the retainer nut, remove the roller, regrease the spindle and reassemble for best results.
usually the grease has dried up and the rollers start to seize on the shaft.

My rollers dont use grease they have a plastic bushing inside, maybe your bushing is toast. Not familiar with all roller types just going by my trailer

Yes, any marine grease...
I've seen some with teflon additives

Fluid Film is my new 'wrench in a can'.
Kinda pricey but seems to work. Mechs used it at 'the Lodge' extensively.

RSCraven has it right! Get a pile of those press fit caps and make sure they are in good shape(try with pliers) You might be surprized at how many just fall Off. Rusted out!! They are cheap-get them direct at Road Runner or any trailer dealer!

I've got an old roadrunner trailer that a few rollers give me trouble. I put on new rollers. Usually the plastic bushing breaks down.
