Ive never planned on buying things at the boat show so im wondering for those of you that have, what sort of discount can one expect for electronics and gear purchases?
Ill be looking for a stereo head unit, amp, and maybe so rod and reel combos
Whoop de do is what I say. Boat Show Prices are nothing to write home about and the prices are such that you can get them at that price throughout the year--shop strategically. There are some items which are good deals...but in my opinion few and far in between worth waiting for and then spending the bankroll there.
For really great deals it's hard to beat the Harbour Chandlers big outdoor sale that they hold each spring. I'm waiting to make most of my next year purchases then.

I bought my chartplotter GPS at the boat show some years ago. It was a $1500. unit I got for 50% off ($700.) only to discover that the chips I needed were $400. ea. and not easy to get. I wanted 4 but have been getting by with 2. Not only the price but I had to order them from the Eastern U.S. Raytheon model ????? Still works just fine though. Supposedly there was a dealer for the chips in N. Van. but when I contacted them they were not interested in ordering them for me. There are some terrific deals but you must know exactly what you want (study up a bit first) and make sure every accessory you need is either included or readily available. Just remember.....it costs those retailers a TON of money to participate in that show. I would suggest that for Nikka and Steveston Marine the boat show is the highlight of their sales year. Make or break time. It was the only place I found an XXL Mustang floater suit and it was on sale.
