Village Idiot Reporting for Duty: anyone care to post instructions on how to begin this process, including the required hardware/wiring (if any) to get registered?

thanks!
As far as wiring, your VHF must be wired to you GPS/Chartpotter. Each brand has there own wiring instructions. I just found them online and wire nutted them together to check them. Once they checked out, I soldered them together and shrink wrapped them. Some units I believe are even easier their just plug-n-play. Fairly simple

I used the wordperfect one (annex a WDP) and saved it to my desktop then just opened file and filled in the blanks, and emailed it in
but do it however your comfortable the end result is the same anyway.

My 3 year old tested mine out without me knowing! Yup, it worked.
Oooo, that could have been costly had they responded, I believe they can charge you now?

The Coast Guard does keep a record of 'accidental activations" but I have not heard of anyone being charged. I am sure the fines exist though.

Most guys know this , but if you want to test your MMSI , give the local coast guard radio station a call on 83a and tell them you would like to test your dsc , send them a non emergency message ( might have to read your manual , I did! ) and they will follow up with a radio call to confirm that they have received it. If that works then your emergency button will work.

When your out on the water PLEASE do not call the Coast Guard when your radio sounds the Emergency alert. Read the screen and follow the instructions. If the emergency is in your area your radio will be automatically switched to 16 by the Coast Guard DSC system. Unless you are sure that you can help, calling in just clutters up the radio and costs responders time when they are trying to get organized during a emergency.
