Big Fish - Sidney?

Howdy,

Any of you guy's heard anything about big-fish coming in from the Sidney area in the last few weeks?

There's a guy who works near our shop at the airport who claims him and his buddy have been nailing them up to 26-pounds...

Knowing this guy the way I do, I'll remain skeptical about these tall-tails till I hear it from somebody else.

Have not heard much but they usualy start getting them rite around now every spring.

I heard a couple coming of springs coming in over 20lbs as well... I wonder if it is coming from the same source as I am skeptical as well hahaha.

Sidney
Salmon fishing was SLOW near Sidney. We’ve only heard of one 13 lb spring from Sidney Channel and one12 lb spring from near Moresby Island. Apparently, the herring have been plentiful some days near Sidney and the salmon had been following them. Natural bait, either anchovy or herring is very productive now. The best lures to use for springs now are Electric Chair or J-79 Squirts, Tiny Strip, Purple Haze and 4” Cop Car spoons.

Pretty much same fitters report week after week for Sidney. Right now there are herring around and locals know find them and you find fish. No slot size for that area. Rumour has it there catching herring off Deep cove marina docks.

I was told that someone lost one close to 30 by Coal Island this past weekend but couldn't verify the facts to post in the fishing report. It's true that there have been lots of herring there and some locals have been filling buckets.

yup lots of bait in deep cove my large freezer is full to the top now look out halli.

Are you guys serious? I live in Deep Cove! How do I catch some? Use a herring jig off the end of the marina dock?

yup that woulda worked highliner but when i went back tonight they had moved out of the marina to bad it was good goin for a couple nights.

They were in on Saturday at the Marina and then went back out in the deep water. They jigged them off the dock on Saturday. I saw a huge ball off Pat Bay this afternoon, so they are still around just have to find them.

Went to deep cove, nothing but herring heads on the dock. Too bad, guess I have more time to learn how to throw a friggin net LOL.

Does anyone have any more info on herring in Deep Cove? Has anyone been out trying for them? Bananas? Lastchance? Thinking about drifting around tomorrow afternoon to see if we can find some bait balls. Any help would be appreciated. Would like to get some for hali bait.
