Best Needlefish Lure?

@eaglemaniac,

T-Rex is G26LGBD

Here are some CJ Special needlefish profiles that we have had success testing last season...Charlie has an improved version that I will have in my hands for this season in about 10 days.

Hey Rob what do these needle fish lures cost? I may want to order some of the blue ones and the green and white. Do they come in any glow or UV colours?

@Whole in the Water,

They are not for sale, or available in any stores at this time. We are perfecting the action and colors before we introduce them. Stop in and chat some time... :)

What about these soft baits?
One from Storm Lures...

or these by Berkeley...

There was also the Nuclear Needlefish spoon made by RipTide lures in Campbell River, but I think they are no longer made. Never tried them, anyone there have any experience with them?

@boomer,

Yes, in fact much of Jack's experimental apex lures were needle patterns. Some of my favorite lures have been shaved down 3.5 apex lures.

I've tried them, they didn't roll very well and look more like a green sausage than a needlefish.
Maybe they weren't supposed to roll-that's why the Red Gills work they don't roll just wiggle.

As dogbreath is sharing, you may be best to use that style of body in a crazy 8 head by OKI.

I'm definately looking into swim baits for salmon and other fish etc. after reading about them. Casting into kelp beds or huge bait balls offshore. Should be fun trying something different. I have been looking into alot of different angling techniques and lures lately. Always fun to try something different;).

@Sculpin,

We have some awesome new swimmers from Daiwa in stock, got some beauty pilchard and anchovy patters...can't wait to knock some silver with them soon!

yep...I know about tiny strip teaser rigs....they've been around for years.
I also owned a few Riptide "Nuclears".....never caught a damn thing on those. although the Riptide "Striker' jig was pretty good. The "Nuclear" was a revolving lure.

As you can see in DogBreath's video, the Needlefish has a more "wiggly", "snakey" swim than a Herring. Which would be hard to duplicate in a spoon IMO.

Iron-Noggin pretty well put into words what I was originally thinking...

The tiny-teaser/strip doesn't wiggle so much. It rolls.

I heard that cutting a slit in the back end of the strip gives it a better action....also on big strip too. The slit has to go about halfway up the body of the bait-strip.

Whatever happened to the guy that made Riptide's?
