Best Halibut Rod & Reel Combo? Weekend Warrior Gear!

6'6 Peetz Rod with 6 inch peetz reel. I have them loaded with tough line which reduces drag and makes fishing in 300ft+ much easier. Get one off Used Vic and take it to Bill at Peetz for a tune-up. My 320 Penn is back up and holds less line.

Peetzman as well. Have the ones with original extension handles. Fun to watch newbies get their wrists sliced open on those bign's take a sudden run.

not sure if this is the best but it is what was recommended to me and I have yet to try it , going to try it in 2013 at Bamfield, what do you guys think;

I like my shorty Rapala RST 5'8'' Speed Jigger. Short, stiff, tons of torque. I have yet to put it on a hali tho so I can't wait. Handles 7' sturgeon and 30lb toons just fine though. Cheap too $80 bux...for a reel, for cheaps sakes, go with a Penn330gt, but give er a good rinse after the salt.

Speaking of Peetz, anyone have one or two 5-3/4" or bigger ones they want to sell that are in good to great shape. I want em for the boat, not the mantle. Thanks :)

I have a few Penn 330s that have done well, great with 65lb test. Only weak link is the level wind gear, tends to strip if you reel sidways to the line, pulling on the line guide eg strong current. Great bang for the buck!

That will work great.
