Here's my favourite from last summer. Kid was the nephew of a friend and lived for fishing but had never been on the ocean. Fish was a 33 + halibut that we caught while trolling for springs off Swale rock in Barkley Sound. He was 3 feet off the ground for the rest of the day.
I hope this thread takes off... It is so disappointing when an angler takes a great fish (or any fish, for that matter) and spoils the photo by trying to be "cool" by frowning at the camera.
It was a great reaction pic because she managed to real it in and then had a huge smile for the camera even though she was so ill from being sea sick and pregnant!
Yes she did...brought it in all by herself. I had asked her to bring up a downrigger to check for kelp, and that spring hit the hoochie as she was reeling it in. She had to spend about 15 minutes fighting it. She loves fishing, and she loves eating the salmon jerky that's the end result.
Kelly, those are some great shots. Must be frame grabs from video. If your ever looking to fish Victoria/Sooke, hit me up. Always got room for a good gaffer.
Here are a couple from the past. I always like the kid's reactions while fishing.
Here is my son after his first successful halibut trip out of Tofino when he was quite a bit younger. He caught these back when you were allowed two a day. He landed them both himself. Proud as punch he was (and myself).
Here is my daughter with her first salmon caught off Ukee a few years back now. Her reaction is a mixed one me thinks. You can tell she is a little happy but grossed out at the same time lol.
This is one of my favourites. We went down to the Sportsman Show quite few years ago and this big game fish rig was at one of the booths. My son had never seen a reel that big before.
Even the big kid's love fishing still. Here is a shot of my fishing buddy with 50 years plus fishing under his belt and he still loves it!!!
Here is a shot of my son a couple of years ago with his first Tyee! It took him a few years but he finally got one and he sure was happy.
Last year's fish for him. (I see a bit of pain in his face as he's trying to hold that slab still for the shot lol).
Who wouldn't smile like that for an Albacore Tuna. A shot of Sean Heart of Tofino Osprey Lodge with the first of the trip. One in the boat will get the smiles going for sure!!
