Berkley Lightning Dowrigger Rods

Last week one of my guests broke a brand new rod on its first day of use. I called River Sportsman in CR about it and faxed them the reciept for warranty replacement.

Today, I just got a phone call from River Sportsman.

They are getting about 25% of those rods back - broken through the handle. They are going to credit me with the purchase price and I'm going for Shakespear UglyStiks which is what I originally was going to buy until the salesman told me the UglyStiks were breaking.

If you have any of these rods, you may want to replace them before they break. Get your money back.

Jim-I used to sell Ugly Stiks they are a POS of the lowest order and while they come with some half baked guarantee it's not worth the trouble.:(

Have a look a these glass rods from Lamiglas CG90DR, no trigger so you can fish them with a moocher or level wind easily.

They call them casting rods on that site but the DR designation means they were designed for downrigging I spoke to the Lamiglas rep about that quite pleased with mine they aren't anything fancy but being glass will take the beating from both fish and clients.

I know that Tyee Marine can get the blanks so they should be able to get the rods or buy them from Angler's Workshop direct that's what I did.

Regards-Carl

FYI on Berkley Lightning Down Rigger Rod. This rod has been re-called due to a flaw in the blank. Berkly has already re-designed and tested a new down rigger rod that will be available shortly. All warranties will be honored with no questions asked.

Thanks.

The Berkley's have been returned. I also returned the new UglyStiks and traded them all for new Shimano Convergance 10.5' rods.

They are a bit of a pain to handle in the boat, but wonderfull to play a fish on.
