Holy Sh#$!

What an event. I can't say I'm surprised...but I can't say I knew that would eventually happen either.

I've always felt so safe around the bears coming in and out of the marina. Isn't it f'd up that when the wrong thing has been done for so many years (dumping the waste one the far bank), there have been no incidents. Then as soon as it is stopped, this happens.

It's hard to lay blame here. We have all thrown heads and guts into that bin knowing full well where it is going. I hope the dude is alright, and good-on-ya to those who saved a life.

For those of you heading to Nitinat, a man was killed up there years ago walking with Salmon near the river.

Sad, sad, event.

That's FN Lame in my not so humble opinion. If I saw that furry friend chewin on Charlie's arm I would reach behind my back grab my 45 caliber GLOCK and ruin that fuzzbuckets day. Need a Bear skin rug? Oh yeah in Canada they don't allow the law abiding public citizens to carry a firearm or some such law I think. Fire Arms good, rouge bears bad. I sure hope that the victim heals up good. The two legged one anyway. Nuff said!

Yes the Nitnat is stupid with Bears some of them not afraid of people, dogs or Bear bangers.:(

Konezone,

May I ask who you are voting for in your next election? Don't bother answering, it's a rhetorical question.;)

FYI...there are almost as many firearms per capita in Canada as the U.S., but why fire when a gaff and knife will suffice.

Hmmm... FYI, I have transported a "firearm" into Canada on numerous occasions while fishing. It isn't that big of deal all you have to do is declare it!

Also, don't take it out of your vehicle when crossing the border! Just declare it and let them inspect on their own! Custom Officers really don't like seeing some stupid yank walking towards them with a rifle! [8D]

i bet you buddy who was getting mauled would been alot happier if someone shot the bear asap rather than waiting for the gaff, hammer and eventual knife to do the job.

Dunno about that...bear huddled on top on the guy biting him, how do you shoot the bear without risking shooting the guy?

Kind of like those stories of American halibut hunters, in all the excitement of a big halibut flopping around, shooting holes in their boats... ;)

There's going to be a lot more guns around Renfrew from now on for sure, I'm uncertain whether I feel safer or not.

What do you call it when you shoot someone accidently when he is being mauled by a bear? "Friendly fire" ? "Collateral damage"?
I've never been mauled (by a bear) but I think I'd prefer getting rescued by someone with a gaff vs. a gun and while we're at it, I'd prefer the gun was left south of the border, so one of our punks doesn't get his hands on it.

Agree... leave the guns at home! Harpoon, gaff, & knife is more than enough. I quit carrying a gun when I bought my harpoon... more chance of being able to keep the fish when tied to the end of a line.

Also, "radar" would be a better investment when fishing out of Port Renfrew! :)

If you own a firearm it is your responsibility to be proficient in it's proper usage. The dumb yank running around with a rifle is a misnomer. With a rifle you don't need to be right next to it. A half mile will suffice :D well that's another conversation. If that's what we are having? I was trying to point out that you could not carry a hand gun in Canada unless you are a Fed. God made man and the Colt 45 made them equal. I met a guy in Anchorage who went hand to paw with a Sow Grizzly a few years back. It came in on the run to claim a Black Tail he was skinning. He had no time to grab his rifle and backed away. The Grizzly walked right passed the deer and attacked him. He fought the Grizzly off with his knife long enough to get a big stick and smack it on the nose. He finished it off with his rifle and nearly bled out. He would tell you that a gun is quite a bit handier than a knife. Ya think? God Bless America and Canada Too![8D]

Clinging to my Guns and Religion.

I just had to poke my nose in for a post to say how unimpressed I am with the direction this thread went. :(
I'll 'LURK' again until the hacker problem is fixed,or I can't take anymore off kilter posts, but must say the post before me should stir up a good read!! [8]

Fact remain guys....... the guy who was ATTACKED who cares how it died we should be wishing him well and not banter back and forth on other stuff. this is a tragic day could you imagine if it was a little kid or someone that got killed!!!!!!!

The fellows who helped, BRUCE and Al are heros and we should focus more on that!!!!!!!!! to do what they did takes one big set of balls!!!!!!!thats a wild animal they just killed really think about that and to do it the way they did!!!!!!

And they just saved a human life how many here can make that claim???now dont go on a debate about that as well LOL

This story will be told for years to come its the first I have ever heard of in my life.......

Have a beer and tip your hat to these fellows.......
