BC LEH's Online

Absolutely Hear That! Drawn many tags over in Alberta through my last 15 year "Dry Spell" in BC. And I'm up for a couple again this season. Now hoping they don't run concurrent with the moose draw here! Tough to be in two places at once, and I ain't giving up the only tag I've drawn here in such a bloody long time!

BC's system is the Laughing Stock of the Hunting World. While almost every single Western Province, Territory & State has progressed to advanced draw systems that have been well proven to work for hunters, we still struggle along with a lottery style program that is fraught with flaws. Guess in many ways, BC still stands for Backwards Country...

Cheers,
Nog

Yup....Well put Nog!

So, you don't seem to have the PRIORTY system in place there.
I'm almost guaranteed Moose and Elk every 4 years, General seasons on both in most places with a Bow (early season).

Flat heads

Our groupies lucked out with 12 flat heads & 1 Buffalo !
Looking more foreward to flatties on big bank starting Sat for a week !!
Stay Tunned !!

Nothing for the wife and I, but the daughter will be after elk in the Peace River area. Just told her this morning, and she said this is one her best days ever, end of school, just came back from Nickelback concert with her Mom yesterday, and now a winter elk hunting trip:).

Nog, while I agree with a lot of what you say, the point system here will simple not work for species like moose. yes it will work for some species, but for most of our draws, the wait would be a lot longer. I cannot explain it because I do not understand statistics (took it in college a long long time ago), but basically, where you have odds of 2.5-1 or more, the point system will not work. Something about the odds always changing, the number of applicants and the number of tags. Go to HuntingBC and search LEH odds. The guy who does the draw explained the reasons why and it made the LEH system easier to understand.

The LEH system is no different than buying a a Lotto 649 ticket and to anyone who builds their plans of the luck of the draw is missing out on a province that has more GOS than any other in Canada. The only species we cannot hunt without a draw are Bison, Rosies and Grizz. Everything else is open somewhere.

Hunting in BC is the best in Canada, getting the draw is just a bonus.

Flame away if you want.....it's my 2 cents and I am throwing it in the pot.......:)

Cheers

Oh and to rub it in.....I have gone 9 for 17 on moose and 1 for 30 on rosies, plus numerous goats and deer....:p:D;)

Agree with Sitkaspruce, even without LEH BC has the best hunting and most species in Canada. Ask my relatives in Ont that get a 7 day shotgun season for deer, bear only, thats why they come here and I play guide with a 21 day permit. I go way north for multi species, only rule is look close at animal class. I do think that LEH could be improved for certain species, island elk could be on an earn a point system or considered once a lifetime tag, as could sheep in certain areas. With a modern computor would this be so hard to impliment? The US states and other Provinces do this as I apply, theres even companies that do this for you and track for a fee. Cabelas TAGS

Hey guys-What you always suspected was true-when I was flying for SAR in the military when I needed a topo map for an area to hunt you just went to the map room and they were there for everywhere. Short question -where do you buy a topo map of the horsefly area in the comox valley??

The BC Gov Crown bookstore used to sell them until March 31 when it was closed down. I'm told now you need to go to either:

Nanaimo Books and Maps - 250 754-2513

international travel maps in Richmond - 604-273-1400

Both will probably ship to you.

SF

You can build your own map using Imap. Not the exact topo, but it has all the roads, blocks etc with pretty good topo view/relief. Tie it in with Google earth and you will have a pretty good idea of the lay of the land.

if you need a hand with it, let me know and I can help you run through a few steps.

Thanks SS I will give that a try as I am very familiar with the general area myself but want to make sure I get the son-in-law off on the right foot.
