BC hydro cuts families power off right before christmas

I am 100% disgusted by this.. Here is a family just trying to get by and along comes BChydro and cuts them off for being 25$ short on their hydro bill...

I would like to try n help this family and think we could really make a difference in their christmas... I do not know them at but i am asking fellow SFBC members to help out if you can give a little it might make a world of difference for this young family this year... I am not accepting donations but i am going start the ball rolling..

That's the one I don't get? Seems a little evil.... I mean the customer is basically giving the money to hydro that is win for everyone....

Probably had some senior employee go over on overtime to cut them off. Bet that cost more than $25. Frankly, people should start getting FIRED for treating people this way.
 
I'd be curious if I was them as to how my electricity bill was 1200 bucks more than my equal payment plan estimate? Somebody tapping in?
 
I just dont get how your bill ends up being $1200 over the amount of the monthly payment. When I pluged in AC this summer hydro contacted us about the spike in our bill and adjusted our monthly payments to cover it. $10 a month.
 
That is absolutely rediculous, if BC hydro cant figure out the right amount for equal monthly payments they should not be able to drop 1200.00 overages on families right before christmas...

Guess that is what happens when we sell out our crown corporations for top dollar.. We will have hydro bills like California one day ...

When you get your bill its shows if your over, it should be your responsibility to call them and make adjustments or start saving the money to pay them.

I don't of course know the whole story, but I have been on the equal payment plan for years. Over those years I have on occasion been contacted by hydro if my consumption rate changed and they adjusted my bill accordingly by 5-10 dollars.
To be using 1200 dollars of electricity over and above the monthly payment seems to be an awful lot! To not be notified when you are consuming that much additional power seems strange!

Ya well they offered them to pay it in 12 monthly payments of 100 extra on the monthly bill, they fell short by 25$ so BC Hydro cut them off..

Doesn't change anything Jeffy, it's the responsibility of the user year round to watch their own usage. In my mind this whole story is stupid.
 
A really tough story but we cannot lose sight of the fact that if enough bills don't get paid-for whatever reason- everyone else's bill goes up to make up the short fall. Glad it all worked out but FA is right, owners responsibility to check your bills so you don't get so far behind.

I just googled the Hydro website and they provide links to ombudsmen, paralegals etc. To help you if you can't pay. I don't from my own personal experience find them as heartless as they are made out to be. Then again I have never used 1200 dollars of electricity more than my monthly payments! I get that you feel compassion!
