Batten down the hatches this weekend

....some of us Yahoo's did exactly that. Didn't see many other brave souls out there!!

No fish for our efforts though. Here's a short clip of some of the rough stuff.

Damn!
thought this was going to be a vid of you guys setting gear on the back deck lol

Power out 5 times in 4 days. This is fun! Atleast ive been working long shifts so I dont have to hang out at home in the dark. Time for things to calm down and get out on the water one of these days!

lol no gear down at that point!

just to be clear if people think we were being wreckless and dangerous out there, that is not the case...and we are not in any way promoting going out in these conditions...first off the boat is designed to expel water, a large sealed cabin, self bailing decks and plenty of power. this is also not new to me, I am familiar with the area, my vessel and its capabilities. Me and FB were constantly monitoring conditions and weather. we chose when and where we made our runs ..and had multiple "escape" options at any point, and in no hurry, we had no problem waiting for better cond.( which we did ).. we had no problem pulling up gear when conditions were not safe or weather was turning...in fact very little fishing was done that day.

"the see what your boat can do" line, I have to agree and disagree on, Im not sure that is exactly what FA meant. it is good to know your vessels capabilities, but after you have gained some experience...at the same time if a fair weather sailor ever happened to get stuck in a bad situation, that experience can be valuable. If you are comfortable with some rougher conditions, you will keep a cooler head and make better decisions in bad or extreme situations. but it is not good to go out looking for trouble!

When I bought my boat after owning many and operating even more and know what I was getting my self into. I took my boat out in some pretty snotty weather to see how it would handle. When it felt like it was getting borderline we headed back to the safe marina. Last year is was caught in a storm and knew I could do it safely and get my crew home. Had I not know it was not capable I would have had to wait out the storm. We took a lot of water thru the snaps of my top both times. Hope not to ever have to go thru that again. One guy ended up in hospital but we made it. :)
