Bass reports

"Try this big guy."? You mean eat it?
I don't eat them myself. I like them as a sport fish since they are far hardier than trout and are easier to release and more likely to survive after.

I caught a fairly big bass the other day on a fly rod by accident when fishing for trout. The fight was like that I would expect from pulling in an ice cream pail. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

from my experience the bass i catch around here tend to outfight trout of equal size...

Well, I never target them and have only caught a few big ones so, it could be this one I caught was just a dog. It'd been quite a while since I had hooked one of that size.

Come on now Yote, you know that regs are important.
Shame on you River Hunter. But mistakes happen... learn from it and move on.
Everyone should check the regs before fishing a new area or new species. If you are unsure C&R.

Whatever floats yer boat. Following regs is mostly reliant on the honor system anyways. I just don't think that posts like that do any good for juniors who may be reading this and think that its ok as long as you just claim ignorance whether you are kidding or not that's all.

hit up westwood on sunday with some buddies, managed to catch 23 between the 3 of us in 2 or so hours biggest measuring 19 inches. most of the fish were on tubes or poppers, also got a nice 17inch rainbow on a white tube, everything released.

what time of the day is best to go to westwood? i've never really fished bass, but you generally fish near the shore, correct? advice is always appreciated.

I prefer the afternoon/evening usually.. as for long i fished it 2 weeks ago for an hour and got a nice 17-18 incher and my buddy lost a really nice one while i was teaching him how to cast/bass fish while i was trying to handle the canoe in big wind. thinkin about maybe going in the tourny at quennell lake in a few weeks, but i hate the weeds there. anyone have suggestions for fishing that lake?
